How to Set Up DJ Mode in Cloudy Discord Bot

Overview

DJ Mode is a server setting that allows administrators to control who can use important music commands. When enabled, selected commands can be restricted to trusted members — preventing users from skipping songs, clearing queues, changing volume, or otherwise disrupting music playback.

DJ Mode is particularly useful for public and community servers where multiple users listen to music together. By restricting powerful music commands to trusted members, you can prevent abuse while keeping the listening experience enjoyable for everyone.

Requirements

Before configuring DJ Mode, you must have permission to manage the server.

Required Permissions

You must have one of the following:

•Administrator permission
•Permission to manage server settings

Without these permissions, you may not be able to use the following commands:

•/djmode
•/setdj
•/removedj
•/djcommands
•/djconfig

If you cannot access these commands, contact a server administrator for assistance.

What is DJ Mode?

DJ Mode adds an additional permission layer to Cloudy's music system. When enabled, only authorized users can use commands that have been marked as DJ-restricted.

Users with DJ Permissions

Cloudy automatically grants DJ permissions to:

•Users with the configured DJ Role
•The Queue Creator
•Users who are alone in the voice channel
•Server Administrators

This helps prevent unwanted skips, queue clearing, volume changes, and other playback disruptions.

Step 1: Create a DJ Role

Before enabling DJ Mode, create a role in your server that will be used as the DJ role.

Suggested role names: DJ, Music Manager, Music Staff, Moderator, or Admin.

To create a role:

•Open Server Settings
•Navigate to Roles
•Click Create Role
•Enter a role name and save your changes

Once created, assign the role to users who should have permission to manage music playback. If you already have an existing moderator or management role, you can use that instead.

Step 2: Set the DJ Role

Use /setdj to assign your chosen role as the server's DJ role.

Command: /setdj role:@DJ

Example: /setdj role:@Music Manager

After running the command, Cloudy will save the selected role. Members with this role will automatically receive DJ permissions whenever DJ Mode is enabled.

Step 3: Enable DJ Mode

Use /djmode to turn on DJ Mode for your server.

Command: /djmode status:Enable

Once enabled, restricted commands require DJ permissions, regular users cannot use DJ-only commands, and music sessions become easier to manage.

To disable DJ Mode at any time, use /djmode status:Disable. When disabled, all users can use music commands normally.

Step 4: Configure DJ Commands

Cloudy allows you to choose exactly which commands require DJ permissions.

Command: /djcommands

This command opens the DJ Commands Manager.

The DJ Commands Manager allows you to customize command restrictions for your server.

Restrict Selected — Makes selected commands DJ-only.

•🔒 Clear Queue

Only users with DJ permissions can use these commands.

Unrestrict Selected — Removes DJ restrictions from selected commands. Everyone can use them.

Restrict All — Makes every supported music command DJ-only. Recommended for highly controlled servers.

Unrestrict All — Removes restrictions from all commands. Everyone can use all music commands.

Reset To Default — Restores Cloudy's recommended default settings. Useful if you want to start over.

Configure Which Commands Require DJ Permissions

Cloudy allows you to choose exactly which commands should require DJ permissions. You are not limited to a predefined list and can restrict or unrestrict commands based on your server's needs.

Using the DJ Commands Manager, simply select the commands you want to restrict and apply the changes. Any command you mark as restricted will only be usable by users with DJ permissions.

Commonly Restricted Commands:

•skip, stop, clearqueue, shuffle, jump, remove, replay, autoplay, seek, volume, removedupes

These are only recommendations. You can restrict as many or as few commands as you want, depending on how much control you would like DJs to have over music playback in your server.
